HILLSBOROUGH: Ferrera, McCauley cruise to committee seats

Anthony Ferrera glided to re-election to the Township Committee, carrying running mate Gloria McCauley along, as the Republicans captured 9,799 and 9,010 votes respectively, outpolling Democratic candidates Matt Dawson and Manny Foranoce, with 6,379 and 5,847, respectively.
”I know it’s my third time winning but this for me, is the most exciting time,” Mr. Ferrera said. “It’s nice to see everyone recognizing all the good work we’ve done.”
“I’m very overwhelmed and very excited,” Ms. McCauley said. “I’ve had so much support and it shows the residents have faith in me.”
The results came as 71 percent of Hillsborough’s registered voters cast ballots, a total of 16,866 out of 23,895 registered.
Republicans dominated at township polls, with Freeholders Peter Palmer and Bob Zaborowski topping their Democratic challengers Cecilia Birge and Douglas Singleterry. Mr. Palmer received 8,184 votes locally, Mr. Zaborowski 8,116, Ms. Birge 6,889 and Mr. Singleterry 6,831.
Leonard Lance received 8,059 votes in his bid to replace Rep. Mike Ferguson in the 7th District of the U.S. House of Representatives, topping Democrat Linda Stender’s 5,955 votes in Hillsborough.
Other races include Dick Zimmer topping Sen. Frank Lautenberg, 8,530 to 6,765; and John McCain receiving 8,366 votes locally in his bid for the presidency, to Barack Obama’s 8,122.
Hillsborough voters gave thumbs up to the ballot question seeking voter approval for all state borrowing, 6,497 to 5,165; but a bid to remove state control on appointments to regionalized municipal court judges failed, with 6,542 voting no and 4,971 voting yes.
