Tribute to ‘Ace’ Hann

The following is a tribute to the late Frank “Ace” Hann and his lifelong concern for young boys of Lambertville and surrounding communities.
In life, there is nothing more noble or worthy than reaching out and making a difference in the life or lives of young people.
For 13 years, countless numbers of young boys from the greater Lambertville-New Hope area and surrounding communities experienced not only the joy and excitement of scouting, but the development of attributes that would bode well throughout their lives.
A respect and admiration for the American flag, strong character, impeccable integrity and a code of ethics that would become a foundation as they journeyed through life.
The following is a brief synopsis of Lambertville Cub Scout Troop No. 49 between the years 1943 to 1956. Unheard of in today’s world, this scouting experience was totally free. All young boys were welcomed. There were no social conditions.
Frank “Ace” Hann’s credo was to make you the best you could be as you took that next step in life. Frank was lovingly assisted in this endeavor by his wife, Edith.
The Cub Scout camp was located on a beautiful farm-like setting off Gulick Road in West Amwell. There were open fields and woodlands where the Scouts both camped and obtained wood for their scouting needs.
This pristine piece of land was owned by Bill and Gus Waksmuth. What a blessing! Two of the warmest human beings you would ever want to meet.
For 13 years, Bill and Gus with open hearts provided free of charge their beautiful grounds for the Cub Scouts’ needs.
Fifty-two years have passed since the last Cub Scouts packed their bags and drove down the dirt road from the Waksmuth farm.
The ensuing years have brought about incredible change, but the one constant through all of this is the legacy of Frank “Ace” Hann. How one man’s dream would impact of generation of young boys will never be forgotten.
To say thank you is such a small token of appreciation, but, Frank, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you and God bless you.
