Democratic Councilman Kevin Wilkes easily defeated Republican challenger Dudley Sipprelle in the only contested race for a seat on the Princeton Borough Council on Tuesday.
Both were running for a one-year unexpired term on the council resulting from the March resignation of Wendy Benchley.
Mr. Sipprelle blamed Democrats for high property taxes while Mr. Wilkes said taxes in the borough were the outcome of the many tax-exempt properties in the 1.8-square-mile borough and tax levels were consistent with Princeton’s generally high cost of living.
The results issued by the Princeton Borough Clerk’s Office Tuesday night, which do not include absentee ballots:
KEVIN WILKES – 2,595
DUDLEY SIPRELLE – 1,073
Running unchallenged by Republicans, Democrat inumbents David Goldfarb received 2,961 votes and Barbara Trelstad 2.970 votes.
