Faith and food
Thursday, Nov. 6 — An interfaith forum will be held at Dorothea Dix Unitarian Universalist Community in the hall of United Methodist Church of Crosswicks at the intersection of Ward Avenue and Church Street.
A panel of leaders involved in feeding the hungry, will tell of their mission, the current situation and their concerns. They are from many area churches, the Islamic community, Temple B’Nai Abraham, the Food bank at St. Mary’s, Presbytery of Monmouth, Crosswicks Quaker Meeting, and Crisis Ministry, as well as HomeFront, Good Neighbor Guild, Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK), Rescue Mission of Trenton, and lay members of local churches who prepare and deliver meals to mothers and children temporarily housed in area motels.

Shrimp Night
Friday, Nov. 7 — The Willitts-Hogan-Tonne American Legion Post 39 on Fourth Avenue, Roebling, will have their monthly Shrimp Night. The doors will open at 5 p.m. and serving will continue until sold out. For the price of $10, you will receive 15 large peel yourself shrimp. If you do not like shrimp, we have meatball sandwiches for $7. Both platters come with homemade potato salad, cole slaw and dessert. Take out platters are also available.

Saturday, Nov. 8 — The Jacobstown Volunteer Fire Co. Auxiliary is hosting its fifth annual basket bingo at the Jacobstown Fire House on Route 528. Tickets are $25. Saturday, Nov. 8 — Bordentown Little League is now accepting registrations for the upcoming 2009 baseball/softball/t-ball season. Elks anniversary
Beginning Saturday, Nov. 8 — The Bordentown Elks Lodge 2085 will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a weeklong celebration. To kick off the week will be the Anniversary Ball on Nov. 8 in the Lower Ballroom. Tickets are $35 and that includes dinner, two drinks and music by Rick & Kenny. Roast beef dinner

Clothing drive
Starting Monday, Nov. 10 — The Parent Teacher Student Connection (PTSC) of the Northern Burlington school district is having a clothing drive from Nov. 10-16. We will accept clothing, shoes, blankets, bedding, and stuffed animals. Please bring your items in plastic bags and leave them outside the barn behind the middle school. Signs will be posted. This is a great opportunity to clean out your closets for a good cause. The items will go to people in need, and the proceeds will support the PTSC’s college scholarship fund.
Veterans Day Services
Tuesday, Nov. 11 — The Florence Township area veterans organizations have announced plans for Veterans Day services. American Legion Post 194 will begin with a service at the monument at Broad and Front streets at 11 a.m. They will be joined by American Legion Post 39 and VFW Post 8838 at 11:30 a.m. at the monument at Veterans Park near the Municipal Building. The Honorable George Sampson will be the speaker. At the conclusion of the service, light refreshments will be served at Post 194.
Monthly meeting
Tuesday, Nov. 11 — The Willitts-Hogan-Tonne American Legion Auxiliary Unit 39 will hold their monthly meeting at the Post Home on Fourth Avenue, Roebling, beginning at 7 p.m. Plans for the annual Christmas dinner will be announced. All members are encouraged to attend.
Ski Club meeting
Wednesday, Nov. 12 — Bordentown Ski Club monthly meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Bordentown Elks Lodge, 11 Amboy Road, Bordentown.
Bordentown Ski Club is a group of people who love to ski, love to socialize, love to travel, and are not afraid to save money on lift tickets. We meet monthly on the second Wednesday at the Elks.
Book discussions
Wednesday, Nov. 12 — Book discussions are held the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Bordentown Library, East Union Street, in Bordentown City.
On Nov. 12, “Plague of Doves” by Louise Erdrich will be up for discussion.
In this book, a community on an Ojibwe reservation in rural North Dakota is the center of a story of redemption, murder and vengeance in the unfolding mystery of a 1911 slaughter of a farming family near the small town of Pluto. Erdrich’s narrators unravel the stories of different generations and families that finally come together in a heart-wrenching conclusion.
Cats fundraiser
Friday, Nov. 14 — Bordentown City Cats will hold a fund raiser from 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 14.
During these difficult times pet rescue needs help so it can continue to assist these beautiful kitties and their owners. Come join us to celebrate the successes in our past and our hope to continue into the future.

Tot Shabbat
Friday, Nov. 14 — Temple B’nai Abraham (at 58 Crosswicks St., Bordentown City) will hold Tot Shabbat services from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Designed for children ages 1-6, this is a simplified Friday night service followed by a potluck dinner and a themed story and craft. Sandwich sale
Friday, Nov. 14 — The Florence Township Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 will hold a hoagie and meatball sandwich sale from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 14 and from 11 a .m. until they sell out on Saturday, Nov. 15.
The hoagies available will be Italian, American and tuna. The price is $6 for either a hoagie or meatball sandwich which includes a beverage and a bag of chips.

Dinner dance
Saturday, Nov. 15 — The Willitts-Hogan-Tonne American Legion Post 39 on Fourth Avenue in Roebling will sponsor a Harvest Moon Dinner Dance. The doors will open at 6 p.m with dinner being served at 7 p.m. Dancing to the oldies will begin around 8 p.m. The price of a ticket is $25 and will include beer and wine. Saturday, Nov. 15 — The Friends of St. Mary’s School whill hold a flea market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s School Hall and Yard, 30 Elizabeth St.

Saturday, Nov. 15 — The Lend-a-Hand Society of the First Baptist Church of Bordentown, on the corner of Prince and Church streets, will hold its Fall Festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for holiday gift shopping. Trail walk
Saturday, Nov. 15 — Join the naturalist and historian of Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park in a walk along the newly opened trail on Duck Island. The program will start at 10 a.m. Participants are asked to meet at the scenic overlook on Route 295 north. All ages are welcome. Training group
Interested in participating in group runs throughout beautiful northern Burlington County? A training group is now forming for various fall races. Whether you’re a beginner, building a base for marathons, preparing for a race of a shorter distance, or just want some company in your quest for fitness, join the group on Saturday and Sunday mornings as they explore the roads of Mansfield, Springfield, Chesterfield and any other fields they can find. Distances will vary, and all paces will be accommodated.

Cat volunteers needed
Bordentown City Cats has collected eight adorable kittens from different sites around the city. They are ready for their new life in a loving home. Any responsible person or family is welcome to fill out an application.

The group is also looking for volunteers to feed, trap, provide transportation to and from vet appointments, or be available once a month for cleanup at the adoption center at an area PetSmart store.
In addition, the group is always looking for caring people to foster friendly cats and kittens until they are ready to be put up for adoption.
Volunteers needed
The Mansfield Township Police Department is currently recruiting volunteers for a domestic violence response team. The team members will work in conjunction with the police to provide support, information and referral at the time of a domestic violence crisis.
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, have access to transportation, possess a valid drivers license, be willing to serve a minimum of four 12-hour shifts per month, and submit to background investigations, including fingerprinting. A 40-hour mandatory intensive training course, to be held over an eight-week period during evening and weekend hours is required and will be provided to successful applicants. An understanding of domestic violence issues is a plus, as is a bilingual capacity.

Volunteers needed
Volunteers are needed to join the River’s Edge Domestic Violence Response Team. Participants will be called or paged by police to speak with a victim of domestic violence and provide them with options. Volunteers will receive 40 hours of initial training provided by Providence House of Burlington County.
Volunteers must be 18 years or older and a resident of Florence, Burlington Township or Burlington City, and must have a valid N.J. drivers license, available transportation and no criminal history. They must be available for a minimum of two 12-hour shifts per month.

WIC program
The Bordentown County WIC (Women, Infants, Children) Program currently has a clinic in the Shiloh Baptist Church, Bordentown.
The WIC is a federally funded supplemental nutrition program for pregnant and breastfeeding women, infants, and children under 5 years old. Eligibility for the program is based on income and nutritional and/or medical risk.
