Elijah’s Promise will host its Empty Bowls fundraiser 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Soup Kitchen, 18 Neilson St., New Brunswick.
Local artists have donated over 300 sculpted bowls for the event. Attendees will purchase and get to keep one of the bowls and sample three different types of homemade soups and breads. This year, there will be a new kids’ craft corner, which will be staffed by Rutgers students and volunteers.
Elijah’s Promise Soup Kitchen serves between 300 and 400 meals a day. That number has increased 14.5 percent in recent months due to the economic downturn. At the same time, donations are also down and the organization is being challenged to meet the needs of the guests they serve. Programs like Empty Bowls allow the organization to raise needed funds.
The event is $20 for adults and $5 for children. To RSVP, call 732-545-9002, ext. 110.
