Helene Cody’s family thanks community

Linda, Win and Jenna Cody of Cranbury
Our family has been very touched and moved by the outpouring of support from the communities of our friends and family. All the support given by the Cranbury and Princeton communities have been overwhelming. The thousands of cranes made for Helene were fabulous. We would like to thank everyone for the support we are receiving.
We treasure the pictures, videos and memories of Helene from friends posted on Facebook and elsewhere. We appreciate memories of Helene that anyone would share. We are creating a Web site, HeleneCody.com, where those memories will made available.
Our family has been blessed by the 16 years that we had Helene with us. No one can truly understand why these things happen to someone so young, so sweet and so beloved. God must have had a higher purpose for Helene and needed another angel in heaven. He got a great one. As many people commented, when we got those beautiful pure white flakes of snow last Tuesday, it must have been from Helene. She always loved the first snow of the season and that was a message from her that she was alright, she even made sure the day’s weather was beautiful.
Helene had a vibrant personality. She was able to make friends with anyone. Her smile was radiant. She had a spirit that moved many people. Her leadership qualities made her able to bring many people together to focus on a cause.
The important thing that we want to communicate is that Helene is not gone. She has touched so many people and that influence will carry on the rest of their lives. It is important to continue to remember what Helene meant to each of us. Our family is keeping alive the memory of Helene by establishing a Helene Cody Foundation that will raise money to give to the types of charitable causes that were important to Helene. We will be continuing her project of the Cranbury 5K. That race had gone on for over 30 years in Cranbury and had recently terminated. She was going to re-establish the race as part of her Girl Scout Gold Award. Our family will re-start that in 2009 as a memorial to Helene. Also, many have commented how this event has taught parents that every moment with their children is precious; that is another wonderful legacy of Helene.
