An article in the Friday, Oct. 31 edition of The Princeton Packet (“PU Campus Plan draws a not-so-fast from Princeton Borough”) included inaccurate information about the projected growth of Princeton University’s student population. The actual projected total student population for the year 2016 is approximately 7,500 students.
In reporting about a presentation I gave on campus Wednesday, Oct. 29, regarding the University’s campus plan, The Packet erroneously stated that I discussed a much larger figure for projected growth of the student body. I did not.
The expected student growth to 7,500 was included on a slide from which the reporter extrapolated a much larger number for which the university has neither plans to add nor capacity. In fact, the chart illustrates there is little correlation between our physical growth and student population growth. The university’s latest capital plan is a perfect example of this lack of correlation, as much of the projected building growth accommodates increases in space for laboratory, research, performance arts and other non-student specific uses.
We look forward to continuing to work with the local community to refine plans for Princeton University’s long-term development strategies.
