MONROE — An electrical problem is believed to have caused a fire that significantly damaged four attached homes in the Rossmoor adult community.
The fire took place at 2 a.m. Oct. 29 at a Milford Lane building that consisted of four residences. A security officer called 911 after observing smoke coming from one of the residences. Firefighters from Monroe, Plainsboro, Jamesburg, Cranbury and Hightstown all responded.
Two of the four residences were occupied at the time of the fire, and those residents were safely evacuated by police and fire personnel, according to Monroe Township police.
The fire began on the second floor of one of the unoccupied units, and quickly spread through the attic of the building. Police said the flames were fueled by heavy winds at the time. Police and fire officials believe that an electrical issue caused the blaze, but that is still under investigation, police said. Authorities do not consider the fire to be suspicious in nature.
No one was injured in the fire, and the two families who were evacuated are staying with family members while the building is being repaired.
