The township is proposing a dog park?
With the economy crashing down on all sides, this is not a time for the township to engage in an unnecessary capital project. Nor is it a time to add a continuing insurance liability, monitoring personnel or facility upkeep expenses to the township budget. This is the time to eliminate all unnecessary expenses and keep taxes from increasing. Especially for all township residents suffering economic hardship from the recession.
Several years ago, an entrepreneur established the Rocky Top Dog Park in Little Rocky Hill along Route 27. It not only has activities for dogs but also an upscale appearance with flower beds at the entrance way. Overall, it has enhanced the area and appears to be quite popular. Furthermore, this business pays taxes while adding no burden to township services.
Dog parks are a specialty niche facility with limited demand. Adding a second but free dog park to compete with Rocky Top Dog Park may very well steal many customers from Rocky Top Dog Park, possibly even bankrupting it.
Bankrupting clean ratables should not be a South Brunswick activity.
