The Princeton Day School boys’ cross country closed its year with a third-place showing at the Prep B state championships on Wednesday at Blair.
Erik Lefebvre led the Panthers with a third-place individual showing, the highest finish of any local individual. Lefebvre is one of two seniors with Christian Nwigwe in the top five for the Panthers.
”I felt they ran very well,” said PDS boys’ coach Eamon Downey. “I didn’t think we’d beat Newark Academy. They ended up winning the meet. I thought we had a very good chance for second. In a few crucial places, we didn’t get it. We were only five points out of second.”
PDS was third out of 11 teams in the Prep B division. On the girls’ side, Bailey Richards was the top PDS finisher in 28th place. She was the highest area girls’ runner.
The Hun School girls’ top finisher was Alex Passano, who was 30th in the Prep A state race. Patrick O’Boyle led the Hun boys in 43rd. The Raider boys had just two seniors in their top seven.
”The girls’ team definitely looked strong at the beginning of the year,” said Hun coach Angela Haberle. “We’ll work on depth. We had some injuries. As for the boys, we’re great with numbers. They were extremely supportive of each other and they were a great group of boys to work with.”
Three girls competed for Stuart Country Day, led by Robyn Sellers who was 39th in the Prep B race.
”All three ran the best I’ve seen them run,” said Stuart coach Sarah Rivlin. “One got a PR even on that hilly course, even with losing a shoe. There was a lot of injuries this year which was disappointing, but I felt like the team came together in a really neat way. There was a lot of camaraderie and we had a really fun season. I had a really good time coaching them.”
