MANVILLE — Expectations for members of Manville High School’s Future Business Leaders of America Chapter 3985 are high, club adviser Nancy Ostaszewski noted at the Oct. 22 installation ceremony for new members and officers for the year.
As members of the largest FBLA club in New Jersey, the students are participating in “an elite organization.”
”This year we have received honors for our membership,” Ms. Ostaszewski said. “We have also been chosen as a gold member and a gold seal chapter for the past three years and last year we placed in the top 10 in the state of New Jersey.”
New Principal Donald Woodring noted how quickly he learned the FBLA students could be counted on to help.
”You can learn about a school by the students and the service that they provide — I have been here as this is only my third week and there were two times that I needed student volunteers and both times the FBLA came forward with members to help out,” he said. “I received a letter a few days ago congratulating the student leaders of the FBLA on the tour they gave to the Class of ‘58, the very first class of Manville. They were extremely proud.
”I am impressed with what I see and the number of students that are here,” Mr. Woodring said. “This is an outstanding organization.”
FBLA installation ceremonies begin with the club president reading the FBLA creed — which was done by new President Ryan McKee — followed by the club’s other officers reading addresses. For Manville’s ceremony, club Webmaster Scott Alpizar delivered an address titled “Future,” followed by Parliamentarian Dawid Brozyna’s reading “Business,” Treasurer Courtney Daruk on “Leaders,” and Webmaster Doug Bradley reading “America.”
The FBLA goals were read by Angelika Lazur, the club’s public relations chairwoman, followed by the induction of new members by Vice President Pawel Maziarz.
Other officers for the school year include Secretary Sandra Rock, and historians Amy Evanylo and Erin Lipot. All of the officers lit candles as they were inducted.
The MHS FBLA is the largest chapter in New Jersey with 89 members and has been celebrating 65 years of service. The club is also the largest club at Manville High School.
Club senior officers Ryan McKee, Pawel Maziarz, Dawid Brozyna, Courtney Daruk, Sandra Rock attended the FBLA fall state leadership conference with Ms. Ostaszewski at the Pines Manor in Edison the next day Oct. 23, where they joined about 500 other FBLA members for workshops and networking.
