Former resident appreciates story on autism

As a former resident of Edison/ Metuchen (my daughter graduated from Metuchen High School in 1992), I want to commend Jennifer Kohlhepp for writing this piece (“Parents Fight for Vaccination Choice,” Sentinel, Oct. 22, 2008) and also your newspaper for printing it. It’s one of the fairest and most informative articles I have read on the vaccine controversy. Many people I know attended the Trenton vaccine rally. My grandson had all the recommended vaccines until he was 2. One day, he was a happy, healthy toddler and the next (after vaccines) he was drowning in a sea of autism. These children have gastrointestinal disorders, immune dysfunction, and a whole array of additional physical symptoms.

We followed the recommended vaccine schedule, and look what it got us. We’re told over and over by the government, our doctors and the media that vaccines are safe. We’re educated parents and grandparents, and we read scientific evidence that tell us the opposite. If vaccines don’t cause autism or other diseases, why can’t they tell us what does? Are we going to have to wait for an answer until all these children turn 18 and flood the Social Security system?

Again, I am proud to have been a resident of an area that prints an unbiased look at the vaccine disaster.
