To the editor:
The decision by Mayor Mark Holmes, Councilman Mike Powers, and Councilwoman Pam Mount to erect two cell towers on township-owned land on Carter Road represents a shocking breach of faith with the people of Lawrence.
On May 20, the mayor gave his word that the council would not consider this idea until the conclusion of ongoing legal action surrounding an application to erect one tower on a commercial site on Route 206. On October 21, aided and abetted by two of his four colleagues, the mayor broke his commitment.
No matter what you think about the cell tower issue, I think we can all agree that public officials should keep the promises they make to the public. When they break those promises, they erode the people’s trust and confidence in their integrity and leadership.
Mayor Holmes should have stuck to his word. Because he didn’t, I wonder what else he’s planning to flip-flop about.
