Democrat thanks supporters in recent election

Wayne Smith, Allentown
To those who supported me in this election, my sincere gratitude. For her patience and support, my wife deserves a gold star.
In America, we are blessed with the right to vote. I have been, and will always be, perplexed as to why so many citizens choose not to fully exercise that right during every election.
Our recent election results indicate that the majority of our residents chose to voice an opinion as to the future of our small community. Unfortunately, that is not the norm.
Every single word, action, inaction or decision by our elected officials, no matter how seemingly inconsequential, ultimately affects our way of life in the borough. I urge residents to ask why, when, where and how. And, when appropriate, to challenge, rather than to sit back and accept.
Admittedly, I am not a politician. I am willing to state where I stand, and I do so with conviction, unlike many others seeking elected positions. I seek no status or standing – nothing other than to create a better quality of life for every borough resident – present and future. I will continue in that effort.
With any luck, maybe we will now be free of those “Improving Your Community” signs, which have remained in place much too long, providing nothing more than a borough sanctioned, political advertisement. And, on those signs, might “Our” have been more correct?
