The handover of more than a trillion dollars of taxpayer funds to the former chief executive officer of the Goldman Sachs investment bank, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, is the greatest swindle of all time. His assignment is to distribute these multi-billion dollar handouts to the very same financial institutions that caused the worldwide crisis by their greed and incompetence. Corporate welfare is too polite a term for this outrageous giveaway. Furthermore, no elected officials have been included on the so-called oversight board and there are no guarantees about paybacks, only hopes and prayers.
Worst of all, the 400-page document that was approved by a reluctant but clueless Congress does not address the central problem. The undeniable fact is that unrestricted, no limits corporate capitalism has been a drag on economic progress for the majority of the American people for several decades. Only wasteful and unnnecessary spending for the benefit of the military-industrial complex has postponed the day of reckoning until now.
As the legendary singer and songwriter Woody Guthrie often said. “Some people will rob you with a sixgun and some with a fountain pen.”
