HILLSBOROUGH: Water main break fixed, but schools closed

HILLSBOROUGH — Water pressure is expected to return to normal by 2 p.m., after crews repaired a late-morning break in a 60-inch water main in Franklin.
The break occured between Schoolhouse Lane and Apgar Road in Franklin shortly after 11 a.m., closing Weston Canal Road to traffic. The break was capped by 12:15 p.m., according to Hillsborough Chief of Police Paul Kaminsky.
Hillsborough schools were closed after completing a half-day because of the loss of water to most of the township.
The break affected most of Somerset County, including Bridgewater, Somerville and Franklin.
New Jersey American Water officials could not be reached for comment on the water main break.
To avoid water that could have become contaminated by the low water pressure during the break, Hillsborough Health Officer Glen Belnay recommended residents boil water for about five minutes until further notice.
