TRENTON — The New Jersey State Council on the Arts has arts grants available for the fiscal year 2010.
Through its Organizational Grant Program, the council assists eligible organizations in serving the people of New Jersey through arts programs and projects.

he council has general operating support
grants available for New Jerseybased, nonprofit organizations with art missions. The council also has general program support grants available for New Jersey-based, nonprofit organizations, colleges, or units of local government to help support ongoing public arts programs.
In addition, the council is offering arts education special initiative grants to help support school-based projects of nonprofit art groups and arts project support grants for state-based, nonprofit organizations, colleges or units of local government sponsoring arts events.
The council also has building arts participation grants to help support projects that identify and address barriers to broadening, deepening and/or diversifying arts participation.
Notices of intent to apply for the grants must be submitted through the council’s eGrant system by Dec. 12. Complete applications for general operating and general program support grants and arts project support grants must be submitted via the eGrant system by Feb. 4, 2009. The deadline for arts education special initiative grant and building arts participation grant applications is Feb. 18, 2009.
In order to be eligible for arts council grants, applicants must be a private nonprofit organization incorporated in New Jersey or a unit of local government or a college/university.
Applicants must be tax-exempt as determined by the IRS, be registered with the New Jersey Charities Registration Bureau, be in existence and providing public programs or services for at least two years, and demonstrate that its activities serve an audience in a multi-county region of the state.
Applicants with a primarily local audience from a single county may apply for support through their designated county arts agency. Interested organizations can access complete information about applying for these grants on the council’s Web site at njartscouncil.org.
Workshops conducted by arts council staff will be offered in various regions of the state for groups seeking assistance with the application process.
Upcoming workshops will take place at 11 a.m. Nov. 25 at the Ocean County Library in Toms River, at 2 p.m. Dec. 9 at the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick and at 11 a.m. Dec. 10 at the New Jersey State Council on the Arts in Trenton.
