Rider University student Robert K. Cook, 19, was charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia when school security officers stopped him outside Poyda Dorm at 4:11 a.m. Nov. 13, police said.
The security officers observed Mr. Cook stuff something underneath his sweatshirt, which turned out to be a homemade bong, or water pipe, used for smoking marijuana, police said. They also found a small amount of marijuana in his Poyda Dorm room, according to the report. He was issued a summons and released.
Gerard McAlinden, 47, of Lower Ferry Road in Ewing, was charged with driving under the influence, hindering apprehension, operating a motor vehicle under the influence with a minor in the car, and assorted motor vehicle violations after police stopped him for driving erratically on Mulberry Street and Princeton Avenue at 1:14 a.m. Nov. 11, according to police reports.
Mr. McAlinden gave police a false name, the police report said. He told police he was driving his girlfriend’s 14-year-old son back to the child’s home when the 1999 Ford Explorer that he was driving was stopped by police. He was issued summonses and released.
A Reeder Avenue resident reported the theft of his wife’s 2004 Toyota from the driveway of their home between 10 p.m. Nov. 9 and 8:04 a.m. Nov. 10. The thief entered the family’s other car and found the keys to the Toyota in that vehicle, and then used the keys to drive away in the car.
A Drewes Court resident told police someone stole the face plate on the radio in his 1999 Honda Accord while the vehicle, which was unlocked, was parked in the parking lot. He discovered the theft at 5 p.m. Nov. 9, police said.
Five cars parked in front of their owners’ homes on Myrtle Avenue were scratched by a vandal between 8 a.m. Nov. 7 and 9:47 a.m. Nov. 8, police said. The vandal used a sharp object, such as a key, to scratch the sides of the cars.
A Bearfort Way resident reported the theft of his $24- Schwinn 10-speed bicycle from the bike rack outside the Lawrence High School swimming pool between 4:30 p.m. and 5:20 p.m. Nov. 8.
Someone punctured the sidewall on the passenger’s side rear tire of a 2001 Honda Accord belonging to an O’Neill Court resident between 4:45 p.m. Nov. 7 and 10 a.m. Nov. 8. The tire was valued at $179.
A Sirius satellite radio, valued at $99, was removed from the windshield of a 2000 Honda Civic belonging to a Creekside Court resident while the car was parked in the parking lot outside the victim’s home between 8 p.m. Nov. 7 and 8 a.m. Nov. 8.
The car had been locked, but it was unlocked when the victim discovered the theft. The thief may have used a sharp instrument to reach inside through a partially opened car window and unlock the door, police said.
A Foxtail Court resident told police someone stole her $200 GPS system and a $2,500 Dell laptop computer from her 2007 Acura while it was parked in the lot outside her home between 9 p.m. Nov. 7 and 9 a.m. Nov. 8. She said she may have left the car unlocked.
Someone tried to break into the Mane Design hair studio on Lawrence Road between 6 and 6:19 a.m. Nov. 8, police said. The burglar threw a rock through a window pane on the back door, but did not gain entry. Damage was estimated at $250.
Jaime Enrique Chalco, 32, of South Broad Street in Trenton, was charged with driving under the influence, failure to maintain his lane, reckless driving, driving while his license is suspended, and driving an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle after he was stopped for driving erratically on Brunswick Pike at 1:33 a.m. Nov. 5, police said. He was issued summonses and released.
Francis M. Burnett, 63, of Humboldt Street in Trenton, was charged with shoplifting and possession of drug paraphernalia after he stuffed his jacket with 19 packages of cheese, worth a combined $86.96, at the Halo Farms store on Spruce Street at 2:55 p.m. Nov. 4, police said. He had a hypodermic syringe in his possession, according to the report. He was released on $2,000 bail.
A $120 mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the driveway of a Trafalgar Court residence between 8 p.m. Nov. 1 and 8 a.m. Nov. 2, police said. The bicycle was unlocked.
