S.R. PTA to sponsor Nov. 22 flu clinic

The South River Primary School PTA will hold a flu clinic 9 a.m.-noon Nov. 22 in the multipurpose room at the school, 22 David St.

The PTA and the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) are working with Flu Busters, a provider of onsite flu vaccinations, and Novartis Vaccines to help children, their families and members of the community get vaccinated against the flu.

Influenza season is fast approaching, and receiving a vaccination is considered the best defense in preventing the serious and potentially deadly disease in adults and children.

Families may consider receiving an annual vaccination because the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now recommends that all children 6 months-18 years of age be vaccinated against influenza.

Flu vaccines are not currently approved for children under 6 months of age and may not prevent the disease in 100 percent of individuals who receive the vaccine. Individuals should consult their healthcare providers to determine if they have a condition that precludes them from receiving the flu shot.

All vaccines have side effects. The most common side effects of influenza vaccines include local reactions and mild general symptoms.
