EAST BRUNSWICK — A new meditation path and garden are open for all to enjoy, thanks to local Boy Scout Shawn O’Grady.

Shawn, a ninth-grader at Churchill Junior High School, completed the path and garden outside Christ Memorial Church, Old Stage Road, for his Eagle Scout project. A ceremony was held Nov. 1 to mark the opening of the facilities.

Shawn is a member of Boy Scout Troop 10, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick.

The path, which is 500 feet long, is covered with landscaping paper and 4 inches of wood chips. Along the path are signs depicting the life of Jesus and small sitting areas. The path ends at the large garden area.

There are two gardens with plants and flowers from the Bible. Posted next to the plants are cards with information about each one and the scripture from the Bible. Benches were placed around the two gardens for meditation and socialization.

Shawn also built an arbor with two benches, three flower boxes, and a trellis with the help of church council member Andy Majsztrik and Churchill Junior High School woodshop teacher Ken Adriance.

Shawn chose the project because he wanted to develop the wooded lot without destroying its natural beauty. Many businesses in town, as well as his fellow Scouts, family, friends and the church congregation, helped support the project.
