HIGHTSTOWN — It may be more than a month away from that special day when wrapping paper is a child’s biggest obstacle.
And the big guy may still be making his list, or at least checking it twice.
But it’s still time for toys.
Today is the official start of the borough Police Benevolent Association’s annual Toys For Kids drive, which will lead to the annual motorcycle show put on by K& B Tattooing on Dec. 7.
The East Windsor PBA also is buying and collecting toys and serving as a conduit for getting them to needy area children.
Some of those children are chosen with the help of Better Beginnings and Rise (the former Community Action Service Center) and others by the Heroes and Ladies Mentoring Program, a township-based organization that provides tutoring and mentoring to children ages 7 through 16.
Joe “Mac” McEneaney, manager of K&B on South Main Street, is excited about the ninth annual motorcycle show, and for good reason.
”This year we will definitely be collecting our 5,000th toy and have quite a hoopla planned, with police vehicles and firetrucks on display along with a special prize for the lucky person that give us the 5,000th toy,” he said.
The prize will be a commemorative stamp and photo signed by former Major League pitcher Nolan Ryan, marking his 5,000th strikeout, Ms. McEneaney said.
New and unwrapped toys, for any age, can be dropped off through Dec. 19 at K&B, at 140 S. Main St., police headquarters in Hightstown, 1st Constitution Bank and Hights Print Shop.
The show, which last year brought out close to 80 people despite snowy weather, will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, and will include the 12:30 arrival of one biker in a red suit who is jollier than all the rest. Gift bags will be given out to all children who attend.
