FIELD HOCKEY

The Lawrence High School has a lot of reasons to look forward to next season.
The Cardinals continued to improve this season, and with Lawrence only graduating senior Devon Harris, the team should return next year with a lot of experience.
Lawrence coach Kristin Shields said her team learned a lot with each game and quickly corrected their mistakes.
The Cardinals had their share of hard-fought wins and tough losses as well as a few one-sided outings, one way or another, but overall Lawrence continued to make improve throughout the season.
”We really wanted to focus on working more as a unit,” said Shields in an e-mail. “Overall I’m happy with how hard they worked. I think they progressed well as the season went by. Their skills developed more with each game and practice.”
While Lawrence will return next season led by a strong group comprised of this season’s juniors, the Cardinals will miss Harris.
Harris led Lawrence’s scoring this season and made contributions on and off the field.
”I think Devon was a very positive leader on the team this year,” said Shields. “There were a lot of new players adjusting to the game and she did an excellent job making them feel good about their playing abilities and part of the team.”
Shields said she was most impressed by her players in games against West Windsor-Plainsboro South and Ewing because the Cardinals stayed tough and determined and never gave up.
When the team returns next season, Shields said she’s looking for players like Sarah Gilbert, Jamie Hargraves, Jiillian Petrone and Molly Sorensen to drive the team.
”We’ll have a great senior class next year again,” said Shields. I am looking for them all to be leaders.”
