On Saturday, the West Windsor-Plainsboro South football team will be playing for a return trip to the Central Jersey Group IV final at Rutgers Stadium.
On the same day, the WW-P North boys’ cross country team will finally run head-to-head with Don Bosco at Holmdel Park in pursuit of a Meet of Champions title. On the same course, WW-P South’s Katie Kellner will be running for a Meet of Champions title as well.
Those athletes, as well as the other runners at the MOC on Saturday, are what remain from a wonderful fall sports season. It was a season filled with great performances and some moments that just stick in your head.
The 2008 fall season was one that will be remembered for some many things.
It will be remembered for Princeton against WW-P North in boys’ soccer. The two teams played three times this year, including twice in tournament semifinals. They were high school soccer games played at the highest level.
It will be a season remembered for Princeton running back Josh Gordon breaking into the open field and turning what looked liked lost yardage into a long run.
It will be a season remembered for the WW-P South offense going into its spread formation and Connor Farrell throwing the ball deep to a wide-open receiver.
It will be a season remembered for the return of the band to Princeton High football games.
It will be a season remembered for the way the Montgomery High girls’ soccer team plays defense, which is as well as any team in the state.
It will be a season remembered for the WW-P North boys’ cross country team running as a pack at the front of every big race.
It will be a season remembered for Katie Kellner running out in front of the field on the cross country course, with her younger sister, Caroline, not far behind.
It will be a season remembered for the growth of the Montgomery High marching band, which is starting to rival the size of some of the top bands we’ve ever seen.
It will be a season remembered for the initial burst of speed from Montgomery’s J.T. Tartacoff whenever he touched the football.
It will be a season remembered for the brilliance of Jackie Gaudiso Radvany finding the back of the cage on the field hockey field, finishing her career with 100 goals.
It will be a season remembered for the near-perfect doubles play of WW-P South’s Larissa Lee Lum and Annie Scharfstein.
It will be a season remembered for a heroic effort by WW-P North in a state soccer semifinal loss on as cold a night as you’ll get for soccer.
In just over a week, the ice hockey and swim teams, as well as prep basketball teams will begin winter competition, and hopefully they’ll be ready to provide us with plenty of memories as well.
