Sparks continue rolling

   The Hillsborough Sparks (U13) were on fire in their shutout game against the Bloomfield Amazons, in which they scored five goals. The Sparks immediately took control of the game. Nicole Rossi scored the first goal, which was quickly followed by goals from Alyssa Hoke and Lizzie Hartel to make it 3-0. With a few minutes remaining in the first half, Nicole Meissner’s goal slipped in past the goalie’s feet.
   In the second half, Erin Moore had several attempts with one of them hitting the crossbar above the goalie’s head. Trisha Datta scored the fifth goal with an incredible kick. The Sparks players were afforded the opportunity to play different positions than they normally do and almost every one of them had an attempt on goal. In the second half, Lyra Biancamano proved her worth as goalie.

The Sparks ignited the field again with competitive play against the Watchung Nighthawks. Within the first 15 minutes of the game, the Nighthawks gained a 1-0 lead over the Sparks. After several unsuccessful attempts at goals by the offensive and midfield players, the Sparks rebounded into action. Lizzie Hartel was knocked down and was awarded a penalty kick which made it in just under the crossbar, tying up the score 1-1.
   In the second half, the Sparks came out with winning on their minds. They were dominant and made repetitive kicks on goal. Athena Zinn scored, bringing the score to 2-1 firing up the Sparks even more. Midfielders Kristen Dubyna, Jackie Herdje and Caitlin Musumeci controlled the pace of the game.
   The real story of the game was the incredible defense anchored by Elizabeth Heitmann, Rupika Ketu, Trisha Datta, Kimberlee Levash and Casey Schoch. Goalie, Erin Moore kept the Sparks in the game by making a total of nine saves.

The Sparks continued their winning streak in their seventh game of the season. In the first half of the game, the offense took control and shot eight balls at the goalie. With an assist from Alyssa Hoke, Nicole Rossi was successful in getting one in.
   The Sparks defensive line was in great form, with goalie Erin Moore only having to save two. In the second half, the competition heated up and the Sparks offensive line was determined to get another in. The Strikers goalie stopped 12 and the Sparks goalie for the second half, Casey Schoch, had four saves.
