BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP—Kevin L. White, a 27-year-old Hopkinson Street resident, was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Friday for stabbing a township woman in her apartment on Feb. 19, according to the Burlington County prosecutor’s office.
Superior Court Judge James J. Morley said Mr. White must serve a minimum of 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Mr. White will continue to be lodged in the Burlington County Jail until the Department of Corrections determines where he will serve his sentence, officials said.
He had entered a guilty plea to the attempted murder charge in front of Judge Morley on Oct. 8.
Mr. White had acknowledged in court that he stabbed Brenda Lanni, 51, inside her apartment at the Bradford Court apartments located off Route 130 in Bordentown Township, according to a release from the prosecutor’s office.
He admitted in court to slicing Ms. Lanni’s throat with a kitchen knife the intent to kill her. No motive was established.
Earlier this year, the prosecutor’s office had said that Ms. Lanni’s 14-year-old son came home from school to find his mother lying on the kitchen floor injured. He immediately called 911, and Ms. Lanni was transported to Capital Health Systems Fuld Campus in Trenton.
While en route to the hospital, Ms. Lanni identified her attacker by name, officials said. He had frequently visited a friend across the hall from Ms. Lanni, according to officials.
Ms. Lanni had told police that Mr. White was in her apartment with permission to use the phone and had suddenly attacked her without provocation.
