EAST WINDSOR — Township resident and state Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Lisa P. Jackson will be part of President-elect Barack Obama’s transition team, according to a DEP spokeswoman.
Ms. Jackson will be on the energy and natural resources transition team, said DEP spokeswoman Elaine Makatura confirmed this week. There are 12 other people on the energy and natural resources transition team with her, according to published reports.
Her position on the team puts Ms. Jackson on the short list to be appointed federal Environmental Protection Agency administrator in the upcoming Obama administration, according to a published report.
Ms. Jackson is currently declining to be interviewed by the press, Ms. Makatura said.
The 44 year old has been DEP commissioner since 2006 and is scheduled to become Gov. Jon Corzine’s chief of staff Dec. 1. The New Orleans native moved to the township about 12 years ago, is a graduate of Tulane University, and earned a master’s degree in chemical engineering from Princeton University. Her two sons attended Ethel McKnight Elementary School and she is a member of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church in Hightstown.
