Steven Walrond, Dayton
It was our privilege and honor to represent the Republican Party in the election for positions on Township Council. John O’Sullivan and I would like to thank the voters of South Brunswick for their support throughout the campaign. Although we did not win, we were excited to see the large turnout for our ticket.
As we reflect back on the results to examine why we were not successful, the one thing that resonates in our minds is time.
The Republican Party must do better. There were approximately 7,900 South Brunswick voters who did not vote in this election. An effort must be made to speak with each township resident and, furthermore, we must reach Democrats and independents who are seeking a different approach to many issues facing this town.
Mr. O’Sullivan and I wish to congratulate our opponents, Township Council members Carol Barrett, Joseph Camarota and Charles Carley, on their win. We must echo Mr. Camarota’s statement that “it was quite a positive campaign all around.”
For me, this was a my first campaign since elementary school and I have to say the experience has made me a better person. I look forward to the coming elections and the work we, as township residents, must do for our families, businesses and ourselves.
Once again, thank you South Brunswick for the opportunities and experience you have given us.
