The Burlington County Sheriff’s Department’s 13th Annual Holiday Toy Drive will continue through Monday, Dec. 15, Sheriff Jean E. Stanfield announced today.
“Toys must be at one of the 47 drop-off locations by 9 a.m. Monday, December 15th before collection begins,” Sheriff Stanfield said. “We will pick up the toys on Monday and Tuesday (Dec. 15 and 16) to distribute to the human services agencies the next day (Wednesday, Dec. 17).”
“The magnitude of this program and the continuing generosity of Burlington County residents amazes me more and more every year,” Sheriff Stanfield said. “While there has been a slight reduction in the number toys donated – and that is understandable with the current economy and toy recalls – the number of agencies involved has enabled us make the holidays special for families who otherwise would have nothing for their children.”
“This program definitely makes a difference in many people’s lives,” she continued, “and it is one of the highlights of my year.”
Residents are asked to drop off new, unused and unwrapped toys at any of 47 locations (see drop-off sites).
Distribution to agencies will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17 after the investigators from the County Office of Consumer Affairs conduct a safety inspection of the toys.
This year, organizations scheduled to participate in the distribution of the toys include Division of Youth and Family Services; Servicios Latinos; Foster and Adoptive Family Services; Family Services/Aspire Youth Program; Delaware House of Catholic Charities; Sisterhood; Providence House; Christian Caring Center; and Burlington County Day Care Center. Also, boxes of toys will be delivered to Burlington County Special Services School for distribution to designated families.
The Community Services Unit, with assistance from the Senior Services Unit and Civil Process Office, coordinate the drive for the Sheriff’s Department.
