Mrs. Abate, 81, of Freehold Township died Nov. 5, 2008, at home. She was born in Spring Lake and had resided in Freehold Township all her life. Mrs. Abate was a waitress at Van’s Freehold Inn, Federici’s, Freehold, and Spring Lake Golf and Country Club. She also took great pride in working the elections for Freehold Township for the past 15 years. Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Lawrence Abate, Sr.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lawrence Jr. and Gloria Abate, Toms River, and George R. and Paula Abate, Smithburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Douglas Burke, Plumsted Township; two brothers, Leroy Taylor and his wife, Marion, Plumsted Township, and Abe Taylor, California; eight grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. The funeral service was held at the Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold.
