LAMBERTVILLE — The Lambertville Public School Board of Education is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy.
Board member Elizabeth Asaro resigned last week to take a seat on the City Council.
Ms. Asaro won the council seat in the Nov. 4 general election and will be sworn in Jan. 1 during the city’s reorganization meeting. State law required she first resign from the school board.
The board is charged with appointing Ms. Asaro’s replacement. Interested persons should send a letter of interest and a resume by Dec. 9 to the board office at the school at 200 N. Main St. They also can be e-mailed to [email protected].
The board plans to interview applicants during the board’s regular meeting Dec. 16. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. The board anticipates making an appointment that evening, board President Steven Wolock said.
The successful applicant would serve by appointment until April. If interested in completing the rest of Ms. Asaro’s term, which expires in 2010, the appointee would have to win the April election.
Applicants should know service on the board requires regular attendance at monthly board meetings, usually held the third Tuesday of the month. Committee meetings also are required. They usually are held the first or second Tuesday of the month.
The candidate selected will be required to attend state-mandated training.
Applicants must be a resident of the school district for at least one year immediately preceding an election. Also, they must be able to read and write and be registered to vote in the district.
Ms. Asaro was elected to fill a council seat left vacant by Cynthia Ege, a longtime councilwoman who decided not to seek re-election. She will serve on the council for three years.
Ms. Asaro, who grew up in Hopewell, has been a Lambertville resident for 12 years. She is employed as a chief of staff at AT&T.
