MARLBORO — Superintendent of Schools David Abbott presented the Marlboro K-8 School District’s Violence and Vandalism Report for the 2007-08 school year to the public during the Board of Education’s Oct. 21 meeting.
Abbott said there were two incidents that were filed with the state and both occurred at the Marlboro Memorial Middle School, Nolan Road, earlier this year.
The first incident, on Feb. 27, involved one student making an inappropriate comment to a fellow student, which made the child fear harm.
Abbott said school administrators and the Marlboro Police Department investigated the matter. No complaints were filed. The offending student received a two-day suspension out of school.
The second incident, on April 4, was a bias incident which occurred at the school. Abbott said one student called another student an ethnic name.
Police investigated the matter and no complaints were filed. The student who did the name calling received a two-day suspension out of school.
The week of Oct. 19-25 was recognized as School Violence Awareness Week. Students in Marlboro’s schools participated in activities that are designed to promote positive methods of conflict resolution.
