HILLSBOROUGH: Level 7 girls excel in competitions

YOUTH GYMNASTICS

   The USAG Level 7 Optional team from Paramount Gymnastics in Hillsborough, kicked off its competitive season at the Ready, Set, Go Invitational meet held at Bishop Ahr High School in Edison in September.
   Hillsborough residents representing the team at the meet included Rachael Lukacs, Megan Zierold and Caitie Beattie. These gymnasts showing their strength and dedication to the sport had an impressive outing.
   Lukacs, competing in the 7-9 age division, and Zierold, competing in the 10-year-old age division, both captured the all-around titles for their respective age divisions. Lukacs scored a 36.10 and Zierold scored a 36.55 in the all-around. Beattie placed 13th all-around with a score of 32.8.
   As a result of the gymnasts hard work they also qualified to compete in the sectional competition held in October.

The USAG Level 7 Optional team from Paramount Gymnastics in Hillsborough competed at its first sectional meet of the season at Head Over Heels in Middletown. The sectional meets are prerequisite to qualify for the state championship competition.
   Continuing to improve upon their skills through hard work and determination, the gymnasts had a successful meet. Rachael Lukacs of Hillsborough, competing in the 7-9 age division, placed first in all four events and the all-around. She had an impressive and entertaining floor routine, which earned her a score of 9.6. She earned a 9.2 on vault, 8.75 on bars and an 8.6 on beam. Lukacs had an all-around score of 36.15.
   Megan Zierold of Hillsborough, competing in the 10-year-old age division, showed her poise and grace on beam and floor and placed second in both events. She scored a 9.075 on beam and a 9.025 on floor. She also placed fourth in the all-around with a score of 35.65.
   Competing in the 12-plus age division was Hillsborough resident Caitie Beattie. Beattie had an outstanding floor routine and placed third in the event with a score of 9.05. She also placed sixth on bars (8.55) and ninth on vault (8.9).
   The three gymnasts qualified to compete at the state championship meet to be held in January 2009.

at Acorn Cup
The USAG Level 7 Optional team from Paramount Gymnastics in Hillsborough prevailed at the Acorn Team Cup meet held at Bishop Ahr High School in Edison. The team, facing some of its toughest competition of the season, captured the team title with a score of 113.6. The team also captured 12 individual event titles. Contributing to the team’s success were Hillsborough residents Alexis LoCasto, Rachael Lukacs, Natalie Onderko, Nicole Orzel and Megan Zierold.
   LoCasto, competing in the 12-plus age division, captured the all-around title with an impressive score of 37.425. She had strong routines on bars and floor, capturing the title in both events with a score of 9.65 on bars and a 9.375 on floor. She also placed fifth on beam (8.95) and 10th on vault (9.45).
   Lukacs, competing in the 7-9 year old age division, continued to excel against the competition, capturing the title in all four individual events and the all-around. She earned a 9.475 on floor, 9.45 on bars, 9.425 on vault and a 9.175 on beam. Lukacs finished with an all-around score of 37.525, her highest score of the season.
   Onderko, competing in the 11-year-old age division, had a spectacular performance and captured the all-around title with a score of 37.425. She had an exquisite beam routine, earning a score of 9.55 and capturing the title in the event. Onderko also placed second on bars (9.575), third on vault (9.45) and fifth on floor (8.85).
   Orzel, also competing in the 11-year old age division, performed well at the competition. She placed fourth on floor (9.0), fifth on beam (8.6) and sixth all-around (35.15).
   Zierold, competing in the 10-year-old age division, had strong performances in all events. She placed third on beam with a score of 9.35. Zierold also placed fifth on vault (9.45) and in the all-around (37.075).
