Down time until inauguration can lead to hanky panky

Waiting for a blessed event to arrive in a maternity ward strains at the very fiber of expecting fathers. But note the anticipation transferring presidential powers between an election and an inaugural on Jan. 20. There must be a better way.

The process may be constitutionally mandated, nevertheless, it’s just plain stupid, especially during our current presidential exchange. Occurring as it does after an earthshaking historical election, writ with stock market upheavals and a recession threatening our nation, it’s chaotic and encourages political shenanigans. Mischief is already in force during this timeframe and partisan forces have begun to feast under the cloak of alleged cooperation and devotion to “our nation’s well being.”

Barack Obama has traditionally been given his token “honeymoon” period to adjust, but the clock is moving rapidly.

Rush Limbaugh, radio’s right-wing monarch, has already started the ball rolling by stating the unholy mess our nation is now experiencing is the result of choosing Obama. Rush, salivating at discord prospects, is joined by legions of dedicated followers.

A lame duck Congress is prepared to stall any legislation which could self-start initiatives, and President George Bush, attempting to bolster his legacy, locks in “civil service” status for many of his appointees and cronies of the past eight years through his executive powers, freeing them from any dismissal.

On the other hand, President-elect Obama, in choosing his trustworthy transitional team players, promotes a third term for President Bill Clinton. Finally this dangerous open space of time is poised to instill doubt and hostility despite the cruel reality a wounded nation cries out for “unity of purpose.” There must be a better way!
