On Dec. 2 I had the pleasure of attending an invitational band and chorus concert at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center, New York. The Marlboro High School Concert Band was one of five tri-state participants. This is the second time Marlboro has been invited to this prestigious holiday concert.
The almost 100-member band under the direction of Patrick Dalton opened the program playing four pieces including “Minor Alterations” (“Christmas Through the Looking Glass”). This last piece is a fun and funky variation of Christmas songs. I can’t describe the thrill at hearing our band in this professional venue.
The Marlboro High School band has a long history of excellence. Many of the band students go on to become music teachers or professional players. For most, because of the band experience, music is always a part of theirs lives.
The reason I am writing this letter is to let everyone know that this wonderful band, along with the jazz bands and the chorus, is available to all in a holiday concert at Marlboro High School on Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.
What better way is there to add to your holiday joy than with beautiful music for the whole family to inspire good feeling and perhaps other budding musicians?
You will come away with far more than just good music and a great entree into the holiday season. You will come away with the heart and soul of what makes a community great. It is dedicated students and teachers who bring about such inspiration.
