Two arrested in armed robbery

East Brunswick police recently arrested two suspects soon after the men allegedly robbed an Old Bridge motorcycle store at gunpoint.

Two suspects entered ER Cycles on Englishtown Road and held up the 26- year-old storeowner and a 25-year-old employee at 3:45 p.m. Dec. 10. One of the suspects assaulted the employee, striking him in the head several times with a black handgun.

The suspects stole more than $600 and fled the scene in a black Mustang. A description of the men was sent out to neighboring police departments, and police in East Brunswick used it to apprehend the suspects on Route 18 near Edgeboro Road.

Police arrested and charged Ajene Lewis, 22, of Newark, with robbery by force, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and aggravated assault. Lewis also had a warrant for contempt of court in Upper Freehold, Monmouth County.

Police also arrested and charged Leonidas Vavaroutsos, 18, of Edison, with robbery by force. He and Lewis were transported to the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center, North Brunswick, with bail set at $100,000 each.

The employee who was assaulted was treated for minor injuries at the business, but reportedly refused further medical attention.
