Jim Duffy of Florence
To the editor:
I would like to commend John Hofflinger of Roebling for his continuing efforts and winning the battle with the Turnpike Authority to reduce the toll amount for Florence and Roebling residents coming across the Turnpike Bridge and using Exit 6.
John never gave up the fight and won. Florence and Roebling residents in ZIP codes 08518 and 08554 are now receiving the discount which went into affect on Dec 1. As John stated in his letter last week, those of us who live in Birch Hollow and other areas will not receive the discount because we have Bordentown ZIP codes. Last year the Post Office gave us the opportunity to have our ZIP codes changed. The Post Office asked us to vote on whether we wanted to correct this error and have our ZIP codes changed to the Florence ZIP code and 90 percent of the residents said NO.
I am still totally amazed that so many residents enjoy having an incorrect ZIP code. There was absolutely no reason to vote no on this issue. It makes no sense whatsoever. Because residents said no, this issue cannot be addressed again for another seven years. So now, not only do we have the wrong ZIP code but it costs us more to ride the Turnpike. This is just plain nuts. Once again John, I tip my hat to you. Your efforts deserve a medal.
