WEST WINDSOR — Traffic was stopped for nearly nine hours Tuesday morning after a crash that resulted in an oil spill on northbound Route 1 in West Windsor.
Just after 4 a.m., a tractor-trailer, driven by Angel Lema, 32, of Booton, was travelling northbound on Route 1 in the center lane when he disregarded a red light, police said. The tractor trailer collided with a dump truck going westbound on Washington Road. As a result of the impact, a fuel tank on one of the vehicles was damaged and 100 gallons of diesel fuel were spilled on the roadway.
Traffic was rerouted until 1 p.m. as the lane was closed for the cleanup.
A traffic pole was knocked down in the crash. As of 2 p.m., the left lane of northbound Route 1 was still closed for its repair, police said.
The driver of the dump truck suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash.
Police could provide no further information at this time.
