Honorable George J. Nicola

The Honorable George J. Nicola, 78, Cranbury, died Dec. 10, 2008, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He resided in North Brunswick, prior to relocating to Cranbury 34 years ago. He was admitted to the New Jersey Bar in 1959, and was appointed municipal court judge of North Brunswick, Jamesburg and Piscataway, from 1960-72. He was appointed to the Middlesex County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court in 1974, and named presiding judge of the Middlesex County Superior Court Adult Criminal Division in 1983. He was appointed to the Middlesex County Civil Court six months prior to his retirement in 2003, and served on a recall status until he was 75. He was predeceased by two sisters, Lillian Kollar and Marion Sinuk; and a brother, former North Brunswick Mayor Charles Nicola Jr. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn LaForte Nicola; four sons and two daughters-in-law, George and Loretta Nicola of Lebanon, John and Missy Nicola of East Windsor, Nicholas Nicola of Cranbury, and Dr. Charles Nicola of New Brunswick; a daughter and son-in-law, Maria and John Moeller of Point Pleasant; a sister-inlaw, Agnes Nicola; seven grandchildren; four nephews; and three nieces. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church, North Brunswick. Entombment was at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Arrangements were by Selover Funeral Home, North Brunswick.
