Residents will now have to go a little bit farther than their curbs to throw away brush from their yards.
The Middlesex County dump is no longer accepting brush, which means the township will no longer be picking up bags of it on garbage day.
”This is not our decision, it’s the county dump who decided they won’t be accepting brush anymore,” said Public Affairs Coordinator Ron Schmalz. “They want to keep brush out of the trash dump. Residents will need to bring their brush to the recycling area at the back of Sondek Park.”
Brush will need to be brought to the Convenience Center behind Sondek Park for recycling. Only brush less than 5 inches in diameter can be recycled.
The center is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mr. Schmalz said the township is looking to expand the hours. Residents can also obtain free mulch from the Convenience Center.
Mr. Schmalz said the township is also looking to have one day set aside in both the spring and the fall when residents can leave their brush out for the township to pick up and bring to the Convenience Center. Sondek Park is located at 473 New Road in Monmouth Junction.
