Woman faces charges of drunken driving

OCEAN TOWNSHIP — A Neptune woman is facing child endangerment charges after she allegedly caused a five-vehicle accident with her three children in the car and was believed to be driving under the influence of alcohol.

On Dec. 15 at approximately 5:50 p.m., Ocean Township Patrolman Mark Powoski responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident involving five cars on Route 35 near West Park Avenue.

An investigation into the incident revealed that the driver of one of the vehicles, identified as Tonya R. Johnson, 46, of Neptune, caused the accident, according to police reports.

Powoski also determined that Johnson was intoxicated during the time of the accident, according to reports.

Johnson was subsequently transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Johnson’s three children were also in her vehicle at the time of the crash.

Police arrested and charged Johnson with endangering the welfare of a child and driving while intoxicated. She was also issued motor vehicle summonses for careless driving, reckless driving and failure to maintain a lane, according to reports.

She was transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, Freehold Township, in default of $35,000 bail.

Two other occupants from another vehicle involved in the crash were also transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, according to reports.
