Mr. Balon, 83, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, formerly of East Brunswick, died Dec. 16, 2008, in the Center for Hope Hospice, Scotch Plains. Originally a plumber by trade, he later was employed by East Brunswick Township as a plumbing, heating and electrical building inspector for 10 years. He was promoted to head of building inspection and served in that position until his retirement in 1990. His wife, Viola Ethier Balon, died in 1999. Surviving are five daughters, Cynthia Varrichio, and her husband, Frank, of Highland Park, Dianne Handza, and her husband, George, of Westfield, Donna Balon, and her husband, Gregg Evans, of Las Vegas, Nev., Janice Zelnock, and her husband, Robert, of Brick, and Susan Balon of Jamesburg; a sister, Claire Rene, and her husband, Joseph, of Hopatcong; two brothers, Bernard Balon, and his wife, Mary, of East Brunswick and Richard Balon, and his wife, Deanna, of San Ramon, Calif.; and six grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Arrangements were under the direction of Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick.
