Ground breaking
    Saturday, Jan. 10 — There will be a ground breaking ceremony for a new school at 10 a.m. at the existing Chesterfield School, 259 Bordentown-Chesterfield Road. After a brief reception and some speakers, attendees will travel to the new school site at 22 Saddle Way.
Donations sought
    Saturday, Jan. 10 — “Re-Gift for Goodness Sake” will benefit the Trenton Rescue Mission & St. Mary’s Food Pantry. Visit them online at www.rescuemissionoftrenton.org and stmarybordentown.parishesonline.com.
    Donations will be accepted from 9 a.m. to noon.
    Items will be picked up by the Rescue Mission & Food Bank between noon and 1 p.m. that same day.

Little League
Registration
    Saturday, Jan. 10 — Bordentown Little League will have in-person registration for the 2009 Spring baseball and softball season on Saturday, Jan. 10 from 9 a.m. until noon at Carslake Community Center. Boys and girls that are at least 5 years old on April 30, 2009 are eligibile to participate. Bordentown Little League is a regional league, with kids from Springfield, Mansfield and Chesterfield also eligible to participate. Registration information, including forms to complete, are available at www.bordentownlittleleague.org. Players must register before Jan. 17 to avoid a $25 per player late fee and to be guaranteed a roster spot. Contact Matt at [email protected] with any questions.
Baseball Clinics
    Bordentown Little League is offering baseball clinics for boys ages 6 thru 12 starting the week of Jan. 12. Clinics that focus on the catching position will be held on Mondays, pitchers on Tuesdays and fielding on Saturdays. Contact Greg at 609-372-4652 to get more information and register. MOMS Club
    Wednesday, Jan. 14 — A MOMS Club meeting will be held at 9 a.m. Come to meet other stay-at-home or part-time working moms in the community. Book discussion
    Bordentown Library has a book discussion every second Wednesday of the month from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at 18 E. Union St., Bordentown City. You can find the calendar of future events at the library online at: http://www.bcls.lib.nj.us/sql/event/.
    The Bordentown Library Book Discussion Group will be reading “Change of Heart” by Jodi Picoult on Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. and “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini on Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.

Environmental meeting
    Wednesday, Jan. 14 — The monthly meeting of the Bordentown City Environmental Commission (BCEC) will be held at 7 p.m. at the Carslake Community Center. Meetings are open to the public. Check out www.bcec.us for more info.
Tarot reading
    Friday, Jan. 16 — Tarot readings will be offered on the third Friday, at Silk and Tweed on 148 Farnsworth Ave. in Bordentown. Readings will be from 7 to 9:30 p.m. All those interested should make reservations. Call Mak at 298-4456.
Vespers
    Saturday, Jan. 17 — Vespers is coming to St. Mary’s on at 7 p.m. in our church. Come join millions of other Catholics as we pray and sing together the evening prayer of the church. If you love Gregorian chant, you will really enjoy the evening. Don’t miss this great tradition of our church. Refreshments will be available after in the school cafeteria. Pancake breakfast
    Sunday, Jan. 18 — Holy Assumption Parish Holy Name Society will hold an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Featuring eggs, potatoes, pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee, at Holy Assumption Church, McGrath Hall, 1290 Hornberger Ave., Roebling. Cost is $6 adults, $5 seniors, children 6-12 $3, and children under 5 free.
Faith enrichment
    Monday, Jan. 19 — A Catechist in-service is scheduled for 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Jan. 19 on the topic “God’s Plan for Human Sexuality.” The program will be presented by Gary Maccaroni, Pastoral Associate for St. Ann’s, Lawrenceville, and will be held at St. Andrew’s Church Hall, Jobstown. This Faith Enrichment Session is opened to all adults.
Community concert
    Monday, Jan. 26 — Community Concert Association of Bordentown presents the Odessa Klezmer Band, featuring a variety of Eastern European, Russian, Spanish, Hungarian, Ukranine and Ladino music, at Bordentown Middle School, 50 Dunn’s Mill Road, Bordentown, at 3 p.m. Adults $1, students $5. 609-954-8130. www.bordentownconcerts.com.
Shrimp Nights
    Due to the way the first Friday falls in January, the Shrimp Night at the Willitts-Hogan-Tonne American Legion Post 39 in Roebling will not be held in January. However, the Post would like to say “Thank you” to all of our friends and neighbors who continually attend this monthly shrimp night and to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a happy and joyous New Year. The shrimp night will resume on Feb. 6.
Winter camp
    Friday, Feb. 13 — Fernbrook Farms Education Center will hold a one-day winter camp program from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Children ages 6 to 11 will participate in winter tracking and birding activities. Additional activities include outdoor cooking, winter wilderness survival, orienteering, crafts and a campfire. The cost for the day is $60 and includes two snacks, hot chocolate and soup at lunch. Weight Watchers
    Weight Watchers of Bordentown has moved to the Bordentown Elks 2085 lodge located at 11 Amboy Road in the lower ballroom. Weigh-in starts at 5:30 p.m. follow by the meeting at 6 p.m. Membership is open to everyone. Come and join now before the winter spread sets in.
