SOUTH BRUNSWICK: Barrett tapped for freeholder post

South Brunswick Township Councilwoman Carol Barrett has been picked by Middlesex County Democrats to replace David Crabiel on the county Board of Chosen Freeholders, according to a report in The Home News Tribune.
Mr. Crabiel died Dec. 1. The county Democratic organization held a special county committee election Sunday at East Brunswick Vo-Tech High School, the Home News Tribune said.
"Barrett garnered 353 votes, topping former Edison Councilman Charles Tomaro (186 votes) and Amy G. Papi (72) of East Brunswick," the paper said. "Papi works for a Trenton lobbying firm and was a former chief of staff for state Sen. Barbara Buono and state Assemblyman Peter J. Barnes Jr."
Ms. Barrett was sworn in for her fourth term on the Township Council on Friday. She has served 10 years on the council and currently is the deputy mayor. She will have to resign her council seat.
The Home News Tribune says she will be sworn in as freeholder today.
