LAWRENCE: Police seek leads in burglary case

LAWRENCE — Township police are seeking help in investigating the burglary of a West Laurelwood Drive residence — near the intersection of Cold Soil and Woodlane roads —between Dec. 23 and Dec. 27, said police Lt. Charles B. Edgar.
When the residents returned home Dec. 27 after a brief vacation, they discovered the front door ajar, Lt. Edgar said. The house had been ransacked and an undisclosed amount of money and jewelry were stolen.
Police are looking for leads in the case, Lt. Edgar said. They are specifically seeking information about a silver or gray sport utility vehicle or hatchback that was seen in the neighborhood. Persons with information should call police Detective Kevin Reading at 844-7135.
Meanwhile, Lt. Edgar urged neighbors to look out for one another. Residents should let their neighbors know if they are going to be away. If the neighbor sees a suspicious car in the neighborhood or observes someone walking around the house, he or she can call the Police Department, he said.
“Don’t hesitate to call the Police Department,” Lt. Edgar said. “That’s what we are here for. We will investigate.”
Lt. Edgar also said residents should contact Police Department before they leave for an extended vacation. Police officers will check on a house if the resident requests it, he said.
“We will put the (request) in our computer system to conduct periodic checks on the residence to see if it is still secure,” Lt. Edgar said. “The officer will check on the windows and the doors. It gives people peace of mind.”
To enroll in the home check program, residents should call the Lawrence Township Police Department at 896-1111.
