The Hun School Announces New Headmaster: Mr. Jonathan Brougham

Mr. Brougham’s tenure as Headmaster will begin July 1, 2009.

Princeton, NJ  The Hun School of Princeton announces Mr. Jonathan Brougham will be the School’s tenth headmaster.  Following a seven-month, national search, Chairman of the Board Joseph Deane informed the entire School community this week that M. Brougham will follow Dr. James Byer ’62 upon his retirement this June.  Mr. Brougham received a unanimous recommendation from the School’s Search Committee and unanimous ratification from its Board of Trustees. 

 

Mr. Brougham’s tenure as Headmaster will begin July 1, 2009. Mr. Brougham comes to The Hun School after serving for eight years as the head of upper school at

CollegiateSchool in Richmond, Virginia. An educator with twenty-two years of experience in independent schools, Mr. Brougham has also served as a teacher and administrator at ThayerAcademy and the KentuckyCountryDay School. A graduate of WilliamsCollege, he earned his J.D. at Columbia University School of Law. After joining the teaching ranks, Mr. Brougham returned to ColumbiaUniversity to earn an M.A. in Educational Administration at the University’s KlingensteinCenter.

The Search Committee for The Hun School’s Tenth Headmaster conducted a seven-month national, search directed by Wickenden Associates of Princeton. The School received inquiries from ninety candidates expressing interest in the position. The Search Committee then carefully reviewed the applications and selected eight finalists to be interviewed. The final decision followed a rigorous and thorough process of interviews and forums with a plethora of constituent groups, leadership, and community members.   His transition will begin in February and include a series of visits to campus this spring.
