CTAA registration
    Saturday, Jan. 17 — Chesterfield Township baseball/softball registration is going on now for children 4 through 16 years of age. In-person registration will take place at Chesterfield Elementary School from 10 a.m. to noon or you may mail your registration. The deadline to mail your registration forms is Saturday, Jan. 31. Registration forms can be found on the CTAA link on the Chesterfield Township Web site at http://www.chesterfieldtwp.com/.
Little League registration
    Boys and girls that are at least 5 years old on April 30, 2009 are eligibile to participate in Bordentown Little League, a regional league that includes kids from Springfield, Mansfield and Chesterfield.
    Registration information, including forms to complete, are available at www.bordentownlittleleague.org. Players must register before Jan. 17 to avoid a $25 per player late fee and to be guaranteed a roster spot. Contact Matt at [email protected] with any questions.
Rabies shots
    Saturday, Jan. 17 — The annual free rabies clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the North Hanover Municipal Building, 41 Schoolhouse Road in Jacobstown. Dog licenses are available at the same time.
Baseball clinics
    Bordentown Little League is offering baseball clinics for boys ages 6 thru 12 starting this week. Clinics that focus on the catching position will be held on Mondays, pitchers on Tuesdays and fielding on Saturdays. Contact Greg at 609-372-4652 to get more information and register. Tarot reading
    Friday, Jan. 16 — Tarot readings will be offered on the third Friday, at Silk and Tweed, 148 Farnsworth Ave. in Bordentown. Readings will be from 7 to 9:30 p.m. All those interested should make reservations. Call Mak at 298-4456.
Vespers
    Saturday, Jan. 17 — Vespers is coming to St. Mary’s on at 7 p.m. in our church. Come join millions of other Catholics as we pray and sing together the evening prayer of the church. If you love Gregorian chant, you will really enjoy the evening. Don’t miss this great tradition of our church. Refreshments will be available after in the school cafeteria. Pancake breakfast
    Sunday, Jan. 18 — Holy Assumption Parish Holy Name Society will hold an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Featuring eggs, potatoes, pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee, at Holy Assumption Church, McGrath Hall, 1290 Hornberger Ave., Roebling. Cost is $6 adults, $5 seniors, children 6-12 $3, and children under 5 free.
Faith enrichment
    Monday, Jan. 19 — A Catechist in-service is scheduled for 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Jan. 19 on the topic “God’s Plan for Human Sexuality.” The program will be presented by Gary Maccaroni, Pastoral Associate for St. Ann’s, Lawrenceville, and will be held at St. Andrew’s Church Hall, Jobstown.This Faith Enrichment Session is opened to all adults.
Community concert
    Monday, Jan. 26 — Community Concert Association of Bordentown presents the Odessa Klezmer Band, featuring a variety of Eastern European, Russian, Spanish, Hungarian, Ukranine and Ladino music, at Bordentown Middle School, 50 Dunn’s Mill Road, Bordentown, at 3 p.m. Adults $1, students $5. 609-954-8130. www.bordentownconcerts.com.
Local bands
    Saturday, Jan. 31 — Back to Work Records is proud to announce the record release show for the local band airplane noise’s self-titled debut EP at 8:30 p.m. at Wesley’s Pub in Roebling, New Jersey. The show will feature performances by airplane noise, the Unprofessionals, and the Mirror Orchid.
Dog licenses
    Dog licenses for 2009 are to be renewed during the month of January in Springfield. Licenses may be obtained at the Municipal Building, 2159 Jacksonville-Jobstown Road, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fee is $10 for a dog that has not been spayed or neutered. The fee is $7 for a spayed or neutered dog (certificate must be presented). A $5 late fee per month per dog is charged after Jan. 31. Please have exact amount when paying with cash. Licenses may be renewed by mail or drop by to the Township of Springfield, Dog Registrar, P.O. Box 119, Jobstown, NJ 08041.
Shrimp Night
    Friday, Feb. 6 — The Shrimp Night is back at the Willitts-Hogan-Tonne American Legion Post 39, Fourth Avenue, Roebling. Serving will begin at 5 p.m. and continue until sold out. For $10, you will receive 15 large peel yourself shrimp with homemade potato salad and cole slaw. Meatball sandwiches with the same side orders are also available for $7. Shakespeare comedy
    Saturday, Feb. 7 — The Bordentown Performing Arts Center presents The Collaborative Act Studio’s production of thehilarious comedy, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged). Tickets are available online at www.bordentownpac.org or at the door. Shows are at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Open house
    Monday, Feb. 9 — The Holy Cross Lutheran Preschool annual open house will be held at 7 p.m. At the open house, enrollment will be opened to the public and registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Come visit our school at 280 Crosswicks Road in Bordentown to meet our dedicated Christian teachers, see our facilities and view our developmentally appropriate curriculum for both our 3- and 4-year-old programs. Book discussion
    Wednesday, Feb. 11 — Bordentown Library has a book discussion every second Wednesday of the month from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at 18 E. Union Street in Bordentown City. You can find the calendar of future events at the library online here: http://www.bcls.lib.nj.us/sql/event/.
    The Bordentown Library Book Discussion Group will be “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini on Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.

Winter camp
    Friday, Feb. 13 — Fernbrook Farms Education Center will hold a one-day winter camp program from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Children ages 6 to 11 will participate in winter tracking and birding activities. Additional activities include outdoor cooking, winter wilderness survival, orienteering, crafts and a campfire. The cost for the day is $60 and includes two snacks, hot chocolate and soup at lunch. Sock Hop
    Saturday, Feb. 21— The Willitts-Hogan-Tonne American Legion Post 39, 4th Avenue, Roebling, will sponsor an old fashioned Sock Hop on Saturday, Feb. 21. Doors will open at 7 p.m. with a buffet/dancing to begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 each and can be reserved by calling Phil at 609-499-4232. This will be a cash bar. Come out and enjoy the music. Prizes will be awarded for the best male and female ’50s outfit.
Weight Watchers
    Weight Watchers of Bordentown has moved to the Bordentown Elks 2085 lodge located at 11 Amboy Road in the lower ballroom. Weigh-in starts at 5:30 p.m. follow by the meeting at 6 p.m. Membership is open to everyone. Come and join now before the winter spread sets in.

Grief support
    Rainbows is an international peer support group for children and adolescents who have experienced death, divorce, separation or other family loss.

    Tuesdays — Nicotine Anonymous meetings are held every Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. on the second floor of the gym of Divine Word Missionaries, 101 Park St., Bordentown. The meeting is open to anyone who has the desire to stop using nicotine. There are no dues or fees.

    First Thursdays — The Bordentown Library holds the Creative Writing for Women program at 7 p.m. the first Thursday of each month. No registration is required.

    First Saturdays — Light of Hope, a family support group, meets the first Saturday of each month at 6 p.m. at Rose of Sharon Lutheran Church, 42 Chesterfield-Jacobstown Road (Route 528).

    A women’s support group and stress management support group, both led by experienced, licensed mental health professionals, are now forming.

Training group
    Interested in participating in group runs throughout beautiful northern Burlington County? A training group is now forming for various fall races. Whether you’re a beginner, building a base for marathons, preparing for a race of a shorter distance, or just want some company in your quest for fitness, join the group on Saturday and Sunday mornings as they explore the roads of Mansfield, Springfield, Chesterfield and any other fields they can find. Distances will vary, and all paces will be accommodated.

Cat volunteers needed
    Bordentown City Cats has collected eight adorable kittens from different sites around the city. They are ready for their new life in a loving home. Any responsible person or family is welcome to fill out an application.

    The group is also looking for volunteers to feed, trap, provide transportation to and from vet appointments, or be available once a month for cleanup at the adoption center at an area PetSmart store.
    In addition, the group is always looking for caring people to foster friendly cats and kittens until they are ready to be put up for adoption.
Volunteers needed
    The Mansfield Township Police Department is currently recruiting volunteers for a domestic violence response team. The team members will work in conjunction with the police to provide support, information and referral at the time of a domestic violence crisis.
    Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, have access to transportation, possess a valid drivers license, be willing to serve a minimum of four 12-hour shifts per month, and submit to background investigations, including fingerprinting. A 40-hour mandatory intensive training course, to be held over an eight-week period during evening and weekend hours is required and will be provided to successful applicants. An understanding of domestic violence issues is a plus, as is a bilingual capacity.
    Interested citizens should contact Patrolman David Mueller at 609-298-4411 or stop at the Mansfield Township Police Department to pick up an application.
Volunteers needed
    Volunteers are needed to join the River’s Edge Domestic Violence Response Team. Participants will be called or paged by police to speak with a victim of domestic violence and provide them with options. Volunteers will receive 40 hours of initial training provided by Providence House of Burlington County.
    Volunteers must be 18 years or older and a resident of Florence, Burlington Township or Burlington City, and must have a valid N.J. drivers license, available transportation and no criminal history. They must be available for a minimum of two 12-hour shifts per month.
    Anyone interested can pick up an application at the Florence Township, Burlington Township or Burlington City police stations, or contact Patrolman Brian Boldizar at 609-499-3131.
WIC program
    The Bordentown County WIC (Women, Infants, Children) Program currently has a clinic in the Shiloh Baptist Church, Bordentown.
    The WIC is a federally funded supplemental nutrition program for pregnant and breastfeeding women, infants, and children under 5 years old. Eligibility for the program is based on income and nutritional and/or medical risk.
