Community groups — including churches, schools, government and environmental groups — are invited by the Hopewell Valley League of Women Voters to reserve resource tables at its upcoming educational forum on affordable housing Jan. 29.
The forum will focus on the economic, social and environmental impact of the Council of Affordable Housing (COAH) rulings on Hopewell Valley towns and the state. The panel discussion begins at 7:30 p.m. at Hopewell Valley Central High School’s Performing Arts Center in Pennington.
The cornerstone of the evening will be a presentation by Phil Caton, who will present a primer on COAH. Mr. Caton — a senior partner of Clarke Caton Hintz, a local architecture and planning firm — is well regarded for his expertise in planning affordable housing, a League spokeswoman said.
Retired publisher Richard Bilotti will moderate the panel that includes David Sandahl, Hopewell Township committeeman; Jim Waltman, executive director, Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association; and the Rev. Charles Stephens, of the Unitarian Universalist Church at Washington Crossing.
The primary goal of the forum is to provide a learning experience for residents. Many people attending the presentation may want to learn about specific plans of their own municipality, as well as concerns and activities of civic organizations.
Groups willing to be a resource for residents before and after the formal presentation are invited to be on hand from 7-7:30 p.m., and 9-9:30 p.m. at stations in the foyer of the auditorium. Tables will be provided for posters and information.
Table space, provided free of charge, must be reserved in advance by Jan. 23. Call 737-1106 or 737-0867 to make a reservation.
