NORTHERN BURLINGTON: County plans $6.5M in road resurfacing

County freeholders have reviewed County Engineer R. Thomas Jaggard’s $6.5 million plan for resurfacing 13 county roads in 13 municipalities for a total of 23.3 miles.
The county would fund the project with $4,504,000 from the annual NJ Transportation Trust Fund. The remaining $1,996,000 would be funded by the county, which has requested $2 million in Federal Stimulus Funding to offset that cost. Approval is expected at the Jan. 28 public meeting.
”Our Annual Resurfacing Program has proved to be an integral part of maintaining our road infrastructure and improve safety,” Freeholder Director Joseph B. Donnelly said. “We select the roads to be overlayed based on our engineers’ evaluation of road surface condition. This plan is cost-effective because it has prevented the need for any major road reconstruction in many years.”
Local county roads to be resurfaced include: 0.9 miles of Hedding-Kinkora Road (Route 678) between Route 130 and Old York Road (Route 660) in Mansfield.
4.9 miles of Burlington-Jacksonville Road (Route 670) between Route 130 and Hedding-Jacksonville Road (Route 628) through Burlington City, Burlington Township and Springfield.
The county highway network includes 508 miles of county roads, 364 bridges, 700 culverts, more than 243 traffic control devices and 17,000 signs, Mr. Donnelly added.
