Thanks to a very hot streak by Frank Capra, the Northern Burlington County Regional High School boys’ bowling team has put itself in position to clinch the Liberty Division championship.
“The boys are 3-0-2 and in first place,” Northern Burlington Coach Ed Del Russo noted of the Liberty Division standings as of this past Monday. “If we beat Moorestown (held this past Tuesday) and Pemberton on Friday, we’ll clinch the division.”
In its past four matches, the Northern Burlington boys have managed three wins and a tie.
On Jan. 6, the boys defeated Pemberton, 3-1. John Webster had the high series with a 614. Justin Howarth had the high game with a 220.
Capra started his hot streak on Jan. 12. In a 2-2 tie with Maple Shade, Capra had the high series (650) and game (235) for Northern Burlington.
On Tuesday, Jan. 13, Northern Burlington defeated BCIT Medford, 3-1. Capra had a 656 series. Ross Croshaw had the high game with a 246.
This past Friday, Northern Burlington defeated Moorestown, 4-0. Capra had the high series (684) and high game (264).
“He’s (Capra) really caught on the past few games,” Del Russo noted. “He’s really stepped it up. He’s got confidence with his shot and has been over 650 three straight series. This is a great time to have him catch on fire. We’re trying to win the division. With the way he’s bowling, it gives us a great chance.”
The Northern Burlington girls have a 3-1-1 record in the division and also have a chance to tie or win the division outright.
“We need a little help,” Del Russo noted. “Someone needs to beat or tie Pemberton for us. Then we have to beat Pemberton when we play them again (3:45 p.m. this Friday at Thunder Bird Lanes).”
The Northern Burlington girls lost to Pemberton, 3-1, on Jan. 6. Heather Banks had the high series for Northern Burlington with a 441. Ahnnalisa Regi had the high game with a 157.
Regi had the high series (434) and Banks the high game (165) when Northern Burlington defeated Maple Shade, 4-0, on Jan. 12.
On Tuesday, Jan. 13, the Northern Burlington girls lost to BCIT Medford, 3-1. Regi had the high series (446) and game (158).
This past Friday, Northern Burlington defeated Moorestown, 4-0. Kayla Pullen had the high series (437) and game (177).
In addition to the matches against Moorestown and Pemberton, the Northern Burlington boys and girls were scheduled against New Egypt yesterday (Wednesday). Northern Burlington will bowl at Delran on Monday and Rancocas Valley on Tuesday.
“Pemberton will be the biggest match of the year for both the boys and the girls,” Del Russo noted. “Hopefully, the boys will be in position to clinch the division that day. And if we can get a little help, it’ll also be a match to decide the division for the girls. It’s a big one.”
