Monmouth University freshman Travis Taylor collected his third Choice Hotels NEC Rookie of the Week award after coming off the bench to lead the Hawks with 13 points and eight rebounds to go along with three assists, two steals and two blocks in Monmouth’s 74-63 win over visiting Quinnipiac on Saturday evening.
Taylor, who led four Hawks in double figures in the comeback win against the Bobcats, registered his 13th double-figure score outing of the season. Taylor currently leads the Hawks and all NEC freshmen with 11.5 ppg, 5.8 rpg and a 56.1 percent success rate from the floor.
Rutgers guard Epiphanny Prince was named to the Big East women’s basketball weekly honor roll, the league office announced Monday morning.
The Brooklyn, N.Y., native averaged 26 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in a 2-0 week for the Scarlet Knights. In addition, Prince shot a combined 56 percent in the two games and posted a 62.6 percent effort from behind the arc (5-of-8).
Prince scored 29 points, matching a season high, in a 60-51 victory at Villanova on Jan 14. The third-year player drilled three three-pointers while also connecting on 12- of-12 from the free throw line to direct Rutgers to its first league win of the season.
On Sunday in a 76-53 win over Marquette, Prince was one of four players in double figures, leading the way with 23 points. She added three assists and three rebounds. The junior also was a perfect 7-of- 7 from the stripe.
Prince paces the Scarlet Knights in scoring (20.5), assists (2.1), steals (2.5) and minutes (35.3). Her numbers rank her third among Big East leaders in scoring, second in free throw percentage (.878), fifth in steals and third in minutes. The guard has scored 20 or more points in nine games.
This is third time this season that Prince has been named to the league’s weekly honor roll.
